IOM – College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) Linkage Program

With mutual cooperation of Institute of Medicine (IOM) and College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) and key objective to enhance the development of medical education in Nepal, IOM – CPSP Linkage Programme was established in 1998. Since its establishment 80 candidates have passed FCPS – Part I exam and 14 have been awarded with Fellowship till June 2009. More than 14 FCPS – Part II trainees are going through training in various institutions till September 2009.

Further, more than 30 supervisors have been registered to train the FCPS – Part II candidates in various specialties in different accredited institutions. So far the College has accredited 9 institutions like; T. U. Teaching Hospital, Shahid Gangalal National Heart Centre, Paropakar Maternity Hospital, B & B Hospital, Om Hospital, Kathmandu Medical College, Model Hospital and People’s Dental College and Hospital to conduct FCPS – Part II training in various specialties and sub-specialties. More institutions are in the verge of being accredited in near future too.

Till September 2009 more than 70 senior doctors have been invited by CPSP as external examiners and 7 senior doctors have been invited by Institute of Medicine (IOM) respectively from Pakistan. The FCPS – Part I is conducted two times every year and any candidate who have completed the basic criteria of passing MBBS/BDS, 1 Year rotational internship and registered with Nepal Medical Council can give the exam. After passing the exam the candidate needs to enroll into the training program in any of the accredited institution where his subject is available.
