Background

Birgunj Nursing Campus is located at Province No. II, Birgunj Metropolitan City, Birta – 4. It was established in 2032 BS (1975 AD) with AHW/CMA (Community Medicine Auxiliary) programme. In 2033 B.S, this programme came under T.U.IOM as Birgunj Campus. During its 43 years of existence, Birgunj Nursing Campus has made a significant progress. It has expanded its academic program from CMA to Bachelor of Nursing Science and is looking forward to bring further higher education in Nursing Science. At present , BNC is running two nursing education programme i.e. 3 years Proficiency Certificate Level Nursing Program (PCL) with 45 students intake each year since 2043 B.S. and 2 years Bachelor in Nursing (BN) since 2068 B.S. and 3 years BNS with 25 students intake each year since 2073 B.S.

The vision of the Birgunj Nursing Campus is to produce nursing personnel of optimum level of academic excellence and to be recognized as prestigious nursing institute in Province II, to cover the universal health in meeting the Sustainable Development Goals.

Mission

Its mission is to create and maintain a learning environment that fosters critical thinking, the acquisition of knowledge, and the development of ongoing professional skills and transform the care in a rapidly changing, diverse and complex health care environment through academic excellence, inventive research, strong partnerships, and global initiatives.

Goals

To achieve our mission and fulfill vision we have strategic goals:

  • To deliver high quality nursing education comparable to the international standards and to promote quality education through faculty development initiative.
  • To produce the middle level human resources who are qualified and well prepared to work efficiently in the assigned area and cope with the challenging environment in the growing world.
  • To upgrade and update the existing academic infrastructure including library and IT facilities to support quality education.

During it’s more than 4 decades of existence, Birgunj Nursing Campus has made significant progress in its programs. It has increased its academic programs from that of AHW, CMA, HA, Proficiency Certificate level (PCL) Nursing, and Bachelor of Nursing (BN) /Bachelor of Nursing Science (BNS) Program.

Available facilities

Physical facilities

  • Quiet atmosphere facilities with sound teaching learning environment for the faculties as well as the students to release their potentialities.
  • Classroom with multimedia projector to facilitate teaching learning activities, well equipped skilled lab that helps in teaching Nursing and Midwifery skills before posting the students in clinical area.
  • Multimedia LCD Projectors are fixed in each classroom
  • Computer lab with internet facility for students.
  • Two vehicles for transportation
  • Hostel facilities for PCL and BNS students.

 

Library

  • BNC has a separate library room with sufficient learning area, textbooks, reference books, periodicals, journals, magazines, newspapers, encyclopedia, e-library and so-on.
  • The main aim of library is to provide resources and research support for students and faculty of educational institution.

Computer lab

  • Students utilize the computer lab for various educational purposes and during their research projects too. 

Clinical field facilities

  • BNC has access to general as well as specialized hospitals and community health services facilities within and outside the city for student clinical experience.
  • Narayani hospital is the major hospital where students of all programme receive hospital nursing experience.
  • For the specialized area BNS and PCL students are exposed in BPKMCH, Chitwan for hospice and palliative care, National Medical Collage and Teaching Hospital, Birgunj for ICU,CCU, Psychiatric posting, Mahabir Prashad Kedia Eye Hospital for Eye posting, observation visit of different institutes like Hetauda DDC, Blood Bank, Rehabilitation centre, Geriatrics home Chitwan, Hetauda and so on.

Extracurricular activities

  • Blood donation programme.
  • Welcome and farewell programme.
  • Nurses day celebration.
  • Celebrate festivals like Teej, saraswati puja etc
  • Indoor and outdoor games like badminton, volleyball, kabaddi, quiz contest and so on.

Future plan

  • Plan for B.sc Nursing Programme.
  • Construct separate building for Basic Science classrooms and labs.
  • Construct separate hostel block for Bachelor level student.

Cafeteria

  • BNC has own cafeteria that offers a wide choice of refreshments and foods. It is located at southern premise of campus.

Hostel

  • There are three hostel buildings; altogether 47 rooms for students, 1 flat for hostel warden, 1 room for warden office, 1 recreation room, 1 storeroom, 1 kitchen and 1 dining hall.
