Department of Information Technology

The Department of Information Technology (DIT) was established in 1st Aswin, 2065 and will assist in fulfilling IOM's main goal which is to excel in Medical Education, Service and Research. In support of the Institute of Medicine's mission, the Information Technology Department promotes, develops delivers and facilitates the use of information technology services and resources in IOM. IOM being a premier institute has lots of data, research and to keep up with the advances in medicine, there was a great need for its own information technology center. In this age of Global Village, the need to excel in one's own objectives is assisted only by information technology.

DIT helps all the faculties and staffs of IOM who are interested in all matters of medical information. It provides services like Faculty room which is also a business center with all IT facilities, It is soon preparing a video conferencing room. In one year’s time, IT has provided cheap and fast internet connection to all the departments, wireless internet service in IOM compound, free internet service in the library, etc.

IOM Department is updating the IOM/TUTH web page and has brought out a new E-BULLETIN which

will be updated once every two months and will contain news, views and programs of the departments.

It can also be used as a forum for discussion among doctors.

IOM–DIT being the provider of central information technology services to Institute of Medicine. IOMDIT primary areas of responsibility are:

· The Institute-wide administrative and medical software system (Finance, Human Resource and Student information)

Achievement of IOM DIT in its first year of operation

  • DIT is providing cheap, reliable and fast internet service to all the departments in IOM.
  • It is making or upgrading the web page of the IOM and TUTH. It will help the departments to
  • make their webpage if they want. maintain all the computers, printers, etc.
  • It is producing a power point presentation of IOM with the information of IOM, so that it can
  • shown by any of the faculties of IOM when visiting abroad.
  • DIT is making a data base of all the faculties of IOM, Campus and TUTH.
  • An e–bulletin with news, views and a forum of discussion is on line, which is updated bi-monthly.

 

 

DIT has upgraded the IOM and TUTH website and helps in making any departments’

websites.

§ It is also trying to make a data base for all official program with photographs of these events of IOM

§ DIT has made a wireless system inside the IOM compound, where any of the staff can use

their laptop or their mobile or PDA to access internet anywhere in the IOM.

§ DIT has conducted video conference with Model Hospital and conducted a Journal club and

discussion of difficult diseases in these sessions. It has also tried it with Hetauda and Dang.

It is conducting a pilot study with Hospice Nepal on tele-consultation and tele-teaching. The

initial report show that it may well be the future for communication, teaching, and medical

consultation for a country like Nepal with difficult terrain.

DIT also supports all the staffs/departments with IT support by repairing computer, printer, photocopy machine and scanners. The staff of DIT also support any software problems in any IOM staff’s computer or laptops.
