Goals:
- To contribute
to the improvement of mental health status of the country by producing
of skilled clinical psychologists.
- To strengthen
the human resources in mental health in Nepal.
Objectives:
On completion of
the M. Phil. Clinical Psychology residency programme, the candidate
will be able to provide comprehensive and effective management of the
psychological aspects of mental health problems encountered in Nepal
independently as well as be able to work in a team with other mental
health professionals.
Course Objectives:
- To train
specialist in clinical psychology with adequate knowledge, attitude
and skills to enable them to function as a consultant in clinical psychology.
- To develop
qualities of initiatives, creativity, sound judgement and logical deduction
so as to provide academic leadership in clinical psychology.
- To develop
skills of critical analysis of scientific literature.
Be conversant with recent advances in clinical psychology.
- To develop
skills in clinical/psychological research.
- To develop
skills as a teacher/trainer of the health team.
Expected outcome:
- At the end
of the course of study the students will be able to:
- Manage independently,psychodiagnostic
and psychotherapeutic procedures;
- Demanstrate
an adequate knowledge, skill and attitude for the development of mental
health services in Nepal;
- Review scientific
literature, undertake critical analysis and present scientific papers;
- Undertake
clinical research in clinical psychology;
- Arrange and/
or conduct appropriate inservice training for hospital staff and community
health personnel of all levels in matters concerning mental health;
- Demonstrate
knowledge of and act consistently within the health care objects of
HMG / Nepal.
- Effectively
function as a team member of any mental health team.
Eligibility Criteria:
- The candidate
must be an M.A. in general psychology with clinical psychology as special
focus, from Tribhuvan University or any other recognised university.
- All candidates
will have to appear in an entrance examination consisting of multiple
choice questions. There will be two papers.
Paper ( I ) will cover general psychology.
Paper (II) will cover clinical psychology.
A minimum of 50% mark will be required as a qualifying mark for being
eligible and the candidates scoring the highest mark in the entrance
examination will be followed in relation to the entrance requirement.
- The candidates
once registered for the course will not be allowed to enter in any other
post graduate programme for another two years.
