Goal
The goal of this programme is to produce specialists in pathology.
Course Objective
- The programme aims at producing competent specialists (pathologist)
in histopathology, cytopathology and haematopathology, capable of correlating
the aetiopathology of the disease with the clinical presentation and
interpret the results of investigations.
- Produce the pathologist who are also expected to take independent
decisions and run a whole time clinical laboratory dignositc services
as well as supervise the subordinates.
- Produce specialists who are capable of undertaking teaching-learning
activities of MBBS students in pathology and research in the related
field.
Eligibility Criteria
- MBBS or equivalent from recognized university with one year compulsory
internship.
- Full registration with Nepal Medical Council.
- Minimum one year service in approved health institution.
Selection for Admission
- Passing of PG entrance examination conducted by IOM.
- Admission of candidates will be done strictly on merit basis according
to the availability of seats.
Training Method
- Self learning
- Grossing the speciments, preparing the sides and their examination.
- Slides discussion and journal club discussion.
- Participation in seminars and conferences.
- Performing FNAC and bone marrow aspiration and interpretation.
- Performing different laboratory tests and interpretations for 6 months.
- Participating 6 months in the teaching/learning activities for undergraduate
students.
- Guidance by teachers for research and thesis.
- It is a residential and nonpraticing training programme.

Evaluation
a. Internal assessment M
- A log book and attendance is maintained and the end of each posting
there will be written and/oral and or/practical assessment by the supervisor
and /or co-ordinator.
b. Final examination:
- Thesis must be accepted to be eligible for this final examination.
- At the end of 3 years there will be theory, practical and viva examination.
Degree Awarded
Students will be awarded the degree of Doctor of Medicine in Pathology
MD (Pathology) after the successful completion of the programme.
